The Mayor of Bromley officially opened the new visitor centre in Crystal Palace Park on Saturday 18 July as part of the celebratory weekend held for the completion of a regeneration programme.
The new visitor centre gives residents and visitors a greater insight into the newly transformed park and includes a permanent exhibition about this historic green space, covering areas such as sport, music, science, and the much-loved Crystal Palace Dinosaurs.
The building also features a new shop with a range of gifts, including toys, books and prints themed around the park and local area, as well as a space hirable for private events. The design incorporates the concrete foundations of the previous building which is a more efficient and sustainable approach and has helped to minimise disturbance to the mature trees around the building.
The Mayor of Bromley Councillor Christine Harris said: “It is wonderful to open this attractive new visitor centre, which is yet another impressive feature of this beloved park. I know that local residents and visitors will make great use of the site and it was lovely to see many residents celebrating the park’s regeneration over the weekend.”
The opening was part of the celebrations that took place across the park over the weekend (18 to 19 July 2026) hosted by Crystal Palace Park Trust, which featured outdoor theatre, live music, dinosaur themed art workshops, and circus performers.
The visitor centre is part of the regeneration works that were co-delivered by Bromley Council and Crystal Palace Park Trust. The centre was designed by Tate and Co, part of the specialist team led by HTA Design, the Landscape Architect and Lead consultant for the regeneration works. It was built by Maylim, the appointed contractor for the works across the park. The regeneration works were delivered with the support of various partners, including a £5m grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The opening follows the news that the Crystal Palace Dinosaurs have been removed from the Heritage At Risk Register as a result of their restoration. Find out more about their restoration and the wider regeneration works in the park.
