A vehicle suspected of being used to fly-tip has been seized as part of the council’s ongoing efforts to tackle environmental crime across the borough.
The Ford Transit tipper truck was seized from Goudhurst Road, Downham, last week following investigations by the council's Environmental Enforcement Team. The vehicle is suspected of being involved in a number of fly-tipping incidents this year. Investigations have gathered pace since the seizure; officers having now identified the individual believed to be responsible for the vehicle, with enquiries continuing.
This seizure is the latest example of robust enforcement action, with seven vehicles seized and eleven vehicles crushed in the last six months as the council continues to tackle dumped rubbish across the borough. Tipper trucks are commonly used for transporting large volumes of waste and can be attractive to those seeking to profit from the unlawful collection and disposal of rubbish.
A council spokesperson said: "Fly-tipping damages the environment, blights local neighbourhoods and places an unnecessary burden on taxpayers. We are continuing to use all available powers to tackle those suspected of being involved, including seizing vehicles linked to waste offences. Seizing vehicles helps disrupt the movement and disposal of waste, preventing further offending and sending a clear message that fly-tipping will not be tolerated in our borough."
Residents and businesses are reminded to only use legitimate waste disposal operators and to check that anyone removing waste on their behalf is a registered waste carrier. Failure to make these checks could result in action being taken if waste is subsequently found to have been fly-tipped.

Bulky items of waste can be disposed of at the Churchfields Road Reuse and Recycling Centre, at the Weekend Reuse and Recycling Centre on Baths Road, or by booking an appointment for the council to collect items directly, with details available on the council's website.
