Residents and community groups are being invited to share their views on a new Air Quality Action Plan, which sets out how air quality could be improved across the borough over the next five years.
Bromley is currently one of London’s leading boroughs in air quality, with all national air quality objectives currently being met and pollution levels continuing to improve. Levels of nitrogen dioxide have fallen by 46.7% since 2016, but the council is committed to making further improvements and is seeking views on its draft Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP).
Councillor Coldspring-White, Executive Councillor for Environment, said: "Our borough already has some of the best air quality in London and continues to improve. But we want to go further, which is why we're keen to hear residents' views. If you have ideas about how we can further improve air quality, please take part in the consultation and help shape our priorities for the years ahead."
The consultation on the council's draft AQAP 2027 to 2031 is now underway, and residents are encouraged to take part by completing the online survey. The six-week consultation will run from 7 September to 18 October.
The draft plan sets out the actions the council will take between 2027 and 2031 to further improve air quality, replacing the current plan which was first adopted in 2020 and extended to cover 2026.
The new plan identifies ten priority areas where the council can make the greatest impact.
Proposed actions include reducing emissions from construction activity, supporting cleaner transport, expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and tackling unnecessary vehicle idling. The plan also reflects recommendations on improving public health and reducing exposure to air pollution.
The proposals build on progress already achieved in Bromley, including a larger air quality monitoring network, planting more than 6,000 trees with Treemendous, expanding participation in the Travel for Life programme, introducing an electric waste collection vehicle, and providing home energy advice to residents.
Residents can view the draft Air Quality Action Plan and complete the consultation survey.
The consultation will run for six weeks and closes on 18 October 2026.

- Bromley's Air Quality Action Plan 2027 to 2031 has been produced as part of the council's statutory duties under the London Local Air Quality Management framework.
- Bromley has a declared Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) encompassing the northern part of the borough excluding Biggin Hill, Darwin and parts of St Mary Cray, St Pauls Cray and Chelsfield. The AQMA was first declared in 2007 and was increased in size in 2020.
