Experienced professionals are being connected with local entrepreneurs, start-ups and small businesses to help them grow and succeed in Bromley through a new volunteer business mentor scheme.
Both mentors and mentees are being sought from across the borough to be part of the scheme, which is being delivered in partnership by Opportunity Bromley and Bromley Council.
Local businesses seeking support and guidance to grow are being invited to apply as mentees for this free-to-join scheme. They will be paired with experienced local business owners or retired professionals who are also being sought for the scheme to share their knowledge for just a couple of hours each month as mentors, helping local businesses overcome their challenges or barriers to growth. Participants will gain the opportunity to expand their professional networks, whilst acquiring new skills, including mentoring and leadership.
Councillor Yvonne Bear, Bromley’s Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing, said: “Sometimes the right advice at the right time can make all the difference for an entrepreneur looking to take their business to the next level. That’s why this scheme has been set up so that the wealth of professional experience we have across the borough can be connected to aspiring businesses, which helps to ensure our local economy continues to thrive.”
Mentors will use their valuable experience to support mentees in various areas including business planning, sales and marketing, finance and cashflow, and growth strategies. Participants will typically commit around 2 to 3 hours per month over a six-month period, with mentor and mentee matches carefully made to maximise the value of each partnership.
Further information, including how to register as a mentor or mentee, is available online.
