Families from across Bromley joined SEND Local Offer Live during October half term, a free, inclusive event for children and young people with SEND, plus their parents, carers and siblings.
Held at Bishop Justus School, the event brought local services, professionals and community organisations together under one roof. Families were able to speak directly with the people delivering support across the borough, ask questions and find information relevant to their individual circumstances.
Visitors explored support covering education, health, children’s and adult social care, wellbeing and preparing for adulthood. The event reflected the close working between Bromley’s Children, Education and Families, Children’s Social Care, and Adult Care and Health teams, which share the goal of helping children and young people receive coordinated support from their early years through to adulthood.
This partnership is especially important when young people are approaching periods of change, including moving between educational settings or preparing to access adult services. By working together, teams can help families understand the support available, make useful connections and plan more confidently for the future.
There was plenty of fun alongside the information and advice. A programme of inclusive taster activities gave children and young people opportunities to get involved in arts and crafts, dance and drama, music and indoor sports. The pop-up arcade was also a popular part of the day.
Councillor Jonathan Andrews, Executive Councillor for Children, Education and Families said, “Our SEND Local Offer Live event shows what can be achieved when our education, children’s social care, adult care and health teams work together around the needs and aspirations of children, young people and their families - creating a space where children, young people and families are able to enjoy activities, speak with local services, and make new connections. That partnership is especially important during periods of transition, and we will continue working together to help families access clear information and coordinated support.”
Families can continue exploring local services through the new Bromley SEND Local Offer website. The redesigned website brings together information about education, health, social care, preparing for adulthood, employment, independent living and community opportunities.
It also includes a dedicated Adult Learning Disability Hub, with accessible information for adults with a learning disability.
