A grant to decorate high streets and shopping parades across Bromley to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee has now launched.

Applications are being welcomed from local business groups, residents’ associations and similar community organisations.

Grants of up to £3,000 are available to eligible groups to help decorate a shopping parade or high street in the borough over the jubilee period this June. The grant application deadline is Wednesday 23 February with more information, including how to apply, available at www.bromley.gov.uk/platinumjubilee.

Councillor Peter Morgan, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said, “Decorating our high streets will help to immerse Bromley in this momentous occasion to honour the outstanding service provided by Her Majesty. It is amazing to think that it is exactly 70 years ago now that Her Majesty ascended to the throne, which I am delighted we will be celebrating in June. I am sure we all look forward to residents and businesses coming together in the spirit of celebration to help decorate our borough to match the joyous mood of the jubilee. There are many further details still to share on our planned celebrations, as we seek to commemorate our national and local history from throughout Her Majesty’s reign.”

This news follows the announcement that the council has waived fees for street parties to celebrate Platinum Jubilee. Interested residents must apply by Thursday 10 March 2022.

The high street decorations can be displayed between 23 May and 12 June. £30,000 is currently allocated to the grant programme, and applications will be prioritised based on criteria outlined on the website if applications exceed the funds available.
