Community groups planning street parties or celebratory events in Bromley for the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III can apply for funding to help enhance their celebrations.

Organisations such as residents’ associations, charities or business groups can apply for up to £500 from the Community Celebration Fund to support their street parties or other community events on the special bank holiday between 6 and 8 May. Interested organisations can apply on the Council website.

This news follows the waiving of road closure fees in Bromley for street parties to celebrate the Coronation, which must be applied for before Monday 13 February and can be done easily online.

Each of the borough’s four Business Improvement Districts are also being allocated £5,000 to decorate their town centres over the celebratory period to ensure high street decorations match the joyous mood of the nation.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said: “Following the amazing festivities when we came together across the borough for Her Late Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, I am eagerly looking forward to local celebrations for the Coronation of His Majesty The King and to seeing our cheerful high streets bursting with Union Jack colours once again. I hope our celebration fund will also give a small but welcome boost to communities’ plans across Bromley for the Coronation, with details of our own plans, including in Queens Gardens, for over the celebratory bank holiday, still to come.”

The £9,000 Community Celebration Fund is being delivered to community groups across the borough to support street parties and events for the Coronation, with the deadline for applications being midday on Monday 20 February or until funds are exhausted.

Fees have also been waived for community events in Bromley Parks over the Coronation bank holiday. At least two months’ notice should be given for park events of under 500 people, with more information available online.

Bromley’s four Business Improvement Districts are in Orpington, Beckenham, Penge and Bromley town centre.
