High Street Fest is returning to Bromley with a massive set of music and entertainment, as ‘Library Lates’ also sets out to impress residents with unexpected thrills.

A free gaming bus, a DJ chill out zone, a smoothie bike, and an upcycling station to rejuvenate pre-loved clothes were just some of the activities and stalls available at High Street Fest last month, which saw many residents enjoying live music throughout the day while dining on delicious street food, with performances from the likes of Magpie Dance, the Last Minutes, Oliver Anderson, and the Showhawk Duo.

Now the festival returns on Sunday 30 April, that will see many of these offerings coming back, plus much more to help welcome in the early May bank holiday in style.

Residents will not want to miss a new ‘Library Lates’ special that is also coming to Bromley just days earlier, with a host of activities that may not be expected from a local library. Library users and non-users alike are being welcomed to Bromley Central Library on Thursday 27 April from 6pm to 10:30pm to enjoy entertainment like a silent disco, a cocktail masterclass, street food, Lego for adults, a gaming van and live music.

Library Lates looks to celebrate local storytelling across these activities, which could be through joining a guided evening walk from Bromley Civic Society, enjoying the showcases from the Bromley Museum, taking a turn in the silent disco or hanging on every word of a celebrity book reading from local Sunday Times bestselling author, presenter, podcaster and radio host, Kate Lawler. Kate will also be DJing in the silent disco for some of the evening, in the foyer of The Churchill Theatre.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said: “What an exciting time for Bromley Town Centre! I hope residents will make the most of these great opportunities to relax and have some fun as the evenings get longer and warmer. Local businesses have always made Bromley such a welcoming and vibrant place to spend leisure time and it seems there is no end to what our great library network can offer residents and visitors, be it the ongoing advice and support they regularly provide, or fantastic entertainment such as this.”

Rebecca Gediking, Interim Head of Libraries at GLL, the charitable social enterprise who operate Bromley’s libraries said: “We are delighted to be hosting such a special event, which I hope will show the variety of community activities that can be found from local libraries in Bromley. We are always looking for new opportunities to grow our library offer and appeal to an even wider range of residents.”

Frances Forrest, the Your Bromley BID Manager said: “These are some really exciting events that build on the activities already present in the town centre, with its great range of local shops, restaurants and bars. I hope these exciting opportunities will encourage visitors to spend some more time exploring some of the great local businesses, many of which are open in the evenings, and enjoying all they have to offer.”
