A new perimeter fence will be installed at the Hoblingwell Recreation ground, with the proposed £150k being the latest investment in the borough’s greenspaces.

The news follows the successful launch of the £487k bespoke community all-wheeled bike track at Hoblingwell, which was officially opened last summer by the Mayor of Bromley, in partnership with idverde and the charity, Access Sport. The completed cycle track is available for all types of non-motorised wheeled sports including mountain bikes, scooters, balance bikes, BMX bikes, skateboards and in-line skates.

Councillor Aisha Cuthbert, Executive Councillor for Environment says, “We are really pleased with the local support for the new cycle track which is being well used. We are committed to protecting our greenspaces and helping ensure they are safe for all to use. It is now right that we press ahead to install this new fence and is more evidence that we are investing in our greenspaces across the borough. We are committed to working with local residents in their local greenspaces and my thanks goes to our Friends of Parks groups who care and work so passionately, particularly for their local park.”

The proposed new perimeter fence follows fencing work in Mottingham and will improve safety at this multi-purpose park in St Paul’s Cray, with this much-loved greenspace supporting both biodiversity and sports and recreation. The fence will physically separate the park from the street whilst maintaining the openness of the park, with a low-level metal fence being installed, subject to the outcome of a successful tender, with the new fence envisaged to be installed later this year. Motorcycle Inhibitors, which are designed to deter motorcycles, are included in the specifications of the new fence, with motorcycling on the parkland being a reported concern raised by local people.

Hoblingwell Recreation Ground includes a children’s play park and several sports pitches including facilities for football, american football and rugby. The open access cycle track, designed for all types of non-motorised wheeled sports, is open and being used, by individuals and a community cycle club also potentially providing structured sessions at the track.
