West Wickham Leisure Centre will remain closed for the coming weeks as investigatory survey work is assessed and remedial options are considered.

The news follows the decision by Bromley Council to close the centre in support of public safety with structural issues identified in the plant area prompting the closure. The issues identified are contained in the plant area away from public sections, with this not being connected to reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC). The potential to bring forward the multi-million pound improvement works planned to go ahead later this year are now being considered as part of the possible solutions.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said: “Whilst it is unfortunate that we have had to close West Wickham Leisure Centre without notice due to the issues discovered during survey work, its long-term future is bright with the council’s continued commitment to invest in these leisure facilities. We are looking very carefully at all the options, including potentially bringing forward the redevelopment of the centre, and are working closely with Mytime Active to minimise disruption and keep residents informed about the situation. We will update further when we can.”

The ongoing investigatory work is continuing, with a range of options being considered. The leisure centre will remain closed during this period and for the coming weeks, with further information expected to follow.

Mytime Active members can use any of its other leisure centres and swimming pools in Bromley - Biggin Hill Pool, Darrick Wood Pool, The Pavilion Leisure Centre, The Spa at Beckenham and Walnuts Leisure Centre. Primetime classes remain unaffected and running at West Wickham Halls.

Updates will be provided as soon as further information is available. Please visit the Mytime Active website.
