Friends of Blake Park have received the latest fitness focussed additions to Blake Recreation Ground in West Wickham following funding from the council’s Platinum Jubilee parks fund.

Using the awarded £20K, as well as £10K of their own funds, the Friends of Blake Park, along with Bromley Council’s partners idverde, have completed the installation of a new, challenging wooden trim trail aimed at 6 to 12 year olds. A fitness frame for adults has also been installed, designed to help users carry out a variety of strengthening exercises.

Councillor Will Rowlands, Executive Councillor for Environment said, “The installation of this fitness equipment is another example of how our Friends of Parks groups are making a difference in their local park or recreation ground. It is really good to see the equipment being used and people enjoying the open space of the Blake Recreation Ground and getting fitter as well. I applaud the efforts of the Friends of Blake Park for their hard work and are grateful to them for their efforts with this, with thanks for their wider support too.”

The trim trail offers great play challenges and includes a combination of overhead and tight rope walks, a climbing wall, swaying ropes, a rolling log, and responsive horizontal ropes.

The fitness frame is made up of ten different workout stations with photo directions attributed to each one. A free app is available to support the use of the kit, to find out more come along and give it a try!

Bromley Council’s Platinum Jubilee Parks Fund has so far supported forty-three of the borough’s parks with over £600,000 committed towards conservation and improvement work.
