Community groups and Friends of Parks groups are being reminded that the final round of funding from Platinum Jubilee Parks Fund is now open.
The council’s £1million Platinum Jubilee Parks Fund that launched in 2022 has successfully helped Friends of Parks groups and other resident groups improve their local park or greenspaces. Further applications are now being encouraged to apply for the remaining limited funds. Over 50 projects have already been agreed in parks across the borough, with 37 of these initiatives already complete. Whilst some applications have already been received, the deadline for applications is 10 March 2025.
Councillor Will Rowlands, Executive Councillor for Environment said, “We have seen some fantastic improvements in so many parks now, which has been heartening to see, with thanks to the dedicated and many Friends of Parks groups who the council has supported in bringing forward the various schemes. In many instances as well, the Friends and other residents have successfully fundraised other monies as well, with our Platinum Jubilee funding helping generate even more funding in our parks.”
Councillor Rowlands continued, “There is still some limited funding available and it may be, as a group, even a newly formed group, that you could successfully apply for a grant which would bring about an improvement in your local park. If this is of interest, we encourage you to consider applying, with further information on our website.”
Successful projects have included many playground improvement projects, community orchards, garden enhancement projects, heritage and conservation improvement projects and outdoor gyms.
