Chislehurst Library will reopen to the public on Friday 22 August at 11am following completion of the recent refurbishment work.

Chislehurst Library will be the fifth library to re-open as part of the £11m initiative to modernise libraries across the borough through repair works and replacement of fixtures and fittings that have reached the end of their useful life. The upgrade work at Chislehurst Library includes a new roof installation, replacement of all windows and a new heating system. An accessible public toilet has also been installed, with redecoration works also taking place, including a new children’s mural.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said: “This is literally an investment in our future which also minimises maintenance costs going forward. Libraries are so very important, not just as centres to support learning, including with books, but they also offer services and facilities that benefit the whole community. There’s something for everyone at our libraries and these improvement works will make them even more accessible and enjoyable places to visit.”

The confirmation that Chislehurst Library reopens next week follows the closure of temporary library in Hornbrook House in the High Street as the library team work to transfer all the books and other equipment ready in time for next week’s reopening.
