An application for 68 new affordable homes in St Paul’s Cray, Orpington, has received planning approval. This marks the next development in the council’s ‘Bromley Homes for Bromley People’ programme.
The redevelopment of the Bellegrove site will consist of one, two and three-bed homes, providing outdoor children’s play space, car and cycle parking, and landscaping improvements. Wheelchair-accessible and supported living units are also being provided. The application was approved at a meeting of Bromley Council’s Development Control Committee on Tuesday 2 September.
Councillor Alexa Michael, Chairman of Development Control Committee, said: “This is a prime example of how Bromley Council can deliver much-needed local housing on sites that are appropriate for Bromley Borough. I am pleased that the Development Control Committee was able to approve the application. It greatly enhances the use of this site with an appropriate design for the local area.”
Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing, said: "This is welcome news that will allow us to now move at pace to deliver these much-needed homes, joining a number of active and recently completed developments from the council across the borough. As well as reducing our housing costs, these developments enhance our local housing supply, delivering Bromley Homes for Bromley People.”
The application is the eighth to receive planning approval in the Bromley Homes for Bromley People programme, which the council are bringing forward to deliver affordable housing across the borough. The most recently completed initiative was in West Wickham, with ongoing developments in Orpington, Bromley and Beckenham.
Construction on the Bellegrove redevelopment in St Paul’s Cray is expected to begin in the New Year, with completion anticipated by late 2027. The decision followed earlier consultation on the redevelopment, with Ward Councillors also expressing support for the application.
