Planning approval has been granted for a mixed-use redevelopment at One Westmoreland Road in Bromley Town Centre comprising 138 much-needed homes and high-quality commercial office space.

Located close to Bromley South Station at the entrance to Bromley High Street, the prominent brownfield site that forms part of the Bromley South Business Improvement Area will see the new buildings constructed following approval granted at Bromley Council’s Development Control Committee on Tuesday 2 September 2025.

Councillor Alexa Michael, Chairman of Development Control Committee, said: “This was a finely balanced decision. This brownfield site has long been set for redevelopment. There were clearly concerns locally with a development of this size which we have always been sympathetic to in Bromley. After listening to both the applicant and objectors, the Committee Members voted narrowly in favour of permission for this mixed-use development.”

The proposed new town centre housing scheme consists of a range of one bed, two bed and studio units, including 107 Build-To-Rent homes, of which 11 are expected to be affordable in line with the financial viability assessment. A total of 31 apartments designed for later living will also be provided. The development will be between three and nineteen storeys and plans also include high quality office space and a new café to support the local economy, as well as new cycle parking and four Blue Badge car parking spaces. Future residents would also benefit from an enhanced public realm, children’s play space, and upper terraces.

The Development Control Committee resolved to grant planning permission subject to planning conditions and the completion of a Section 106 agreement and any direction from the Mayor of London. The decision was made following consideration of over 200 representations as part of the usual planning consultation process, including support and objections. Ward Councillor opposition was also expressed about the development, particularly due to its height and number of affordable units.
