‘The Run’ is a new short film showcasing the transformative effect foster carers can have on the young people they care for.
Residents are invited to watch the short film for inspiration and to discover how becoming a foster carer can transform lives, guiding children and young people from uncertain childhoods and home lives towards a brighter future.
Cllr Kate Lymer, Executive Councillor for Children, Education and Families said, “The Run’ is a powerful reminder of the incredible impact foster carers can have, completely changing the trajectory of a child’s life. Whether through short-term or long-term placements, and with support, stability and encouragement, foster families can help young people move away from negative paths towards futures that are positive, structured, and full of opportunity to fulfil their potential. We are always looking for more to join our dedicated foster carers in this vital work, so if you are interested and ready to make a difference, watch our short film and contact our team to learn how the council can support you on your own fostering journey.”
With more foster carers urgently needed, the council worked in partnership with Reel TwentyFive, CAN, and a growing network of councils and organisations to produce ‘The Run’. Together, they share a mission to demonstrate how a supportive, nurturing environment and strong familial relationships can shape the development of children and young people - helping them unlock their potential, follow a positive path, and grow into well-rounded adults.
‘The Run’ follows Tom, a 12 year old boy whose passion for running becomes his escape from a chaotic home life and a way to avoid danger. Despite the challenges he faces, Tom’s new foster family help him harness his talent and pursue his dreams on the athletics track, competing in a stadium for the first time.
With 371 children and young people currently in care in the borough, Bromley’s Fostering Team joined this collaborative project to find innovative ways to inspire and encourage more people to begin their fostering journey, joining the many in the borough who provide vital support and stability for children and young people.
For anyone interested in becoming a foster carer, Bromley’s Fostering Team encourages them to get in touch to learn more about the support and training on offer.
