Plans are emerging for 10 affordable terraced homes on Castlecombe Road in Mottingham with residents invited to join engagement sessions about this next ‘Bromley Homes for Bromley People’ development.

The proposed housing would be a mix of two and three bed terraced homes, including an accessible unit, which would all be retained by the council to let to residents on the housing register. Each home would include a front and rear garden, with new local play and green spaces provided through the works, along with new resident car parking. Works on the housing are expected to commence late next year, subject to Planning approval, and be completed in 2027.

As the Castlecombe Youth Centre is moving into the Castlecombe Children and Family Centre next door once it is refurbished and expanded, the council is planning to use some of the remaining youth centre land, which is not being used for the site of the expanded centre, to deliver these much-needed affordable homes.

Members of the project team will be available to answer questions about the proposed housing at engagement sessions at Castlecombe Youth Centre on:

  • Tuesday 9 December, 10am to 4pm
  • Thursday 11 December, 3pm to 7pm
  • Saturday 13 December, 10am to 1pm

Residents can provide feedback at these engagement sessions to help shape proposals ahead of a Planning application being submitted. Design proposals will also be on display at Mottingham Library from 13 to 21 December during usual opening hours.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said: “It is important that we continue to bring forward options to build affordable homes on brownfield sites across the borough, so we can provide the housing our residents need and reduce costs to council taxpayers in housing Bromley families facing homelessness. This proposal shows clearly how we can deliver much-needed houses on manageable sites of more limited size. I encourage residents to come and find out more about the proposed housing and help to shape the emerging designs.”

Progress continues to be made on the council’s wider ‘Bromley homes for Bromley people’ programme, with the most recent development completed in West Wickham, with ongoing developments in Orpington, Bromley and Beckenham.

A separate planning application has been submitted for the extension and refurbishment of the Castlecombe Children and Family Centre, with residents able to make comments through the Planning portal in the usual way. Further details about these works will be announced in due course, which are expected to get underway next year, subject to Planning approval.
