A vibrant new youth art installation, Art Conversations at Masons Hill, has opened at Bromley Youth Justice Service (YJS), showcasing creativity and resilience through over 30 unique artworks.
Art Conversations at Masons Hill is now a permanent installation at YJS to be enjoyed by parents, children and partners who access the service, featuring a collection of artworks co-created by young people under the guidance of art tutor James Titchner. The project, coordinated by Education, Training and Employment Lead Andrew Ceolin, has evolved over three and a half years into a powerful expression of creativity and confidence.
Councillor Kate Lymer, Executive Councillor for Children, Education and Families, officially opened the gallery alongside senior leaders from across the Youth Justice Service partnership and said, "This installation is a testament to the talent and determination of our young people. Through art, they have found a positive way to express themselves and build confidence for the future. I am proud to see such creativity celebrated in our community."
Initially introduced in 2022 as paint workshops to support young people emerging from the pandemic, the initiative aimed to encourage self-expression, build resilience, and bring vibrant colour to the Youth Service offices. What began as a creative outlet has grown into a meaningful journey of personal development, fostering new relationships and a sense of achievement for participants.
The Art Conversations sessions gave young people the chance to build positive relationships, grow in confidence and discover a renewed sense of self-worth. No prior artistic experience was needed, as each workshop was thoughtfully structured into accessible steps, so everyone could enjoy and learn from the creative process.
