Bookings are now being accepted ahead of the temporary weekend Reuse and Recycling Centre opening at the end of this month, on 31 January.
A limited range of items will be able to be disposed of, namely furniture and electrical items. Access to this temporary facility will be via Baths Road whilst work to upgrade Waldo Road depot continues and set to be completed this year in the autumn. The opening times for the appointment only service will be from 8:30 am to 3pm on Saturdays and from 8:30am to midday on Sunday.
The additional disposal option over the weekend will help residents dispose of and recycle unwanted bulky items over the popular weekend period. Residents are reminded that the full range of disposal options remains available at Churchfields Road should this be needed, with direct collections of bulky waste also available.
Residents planning to visit the weekend site will need to book an appointment, with the booking system helping minimise potential queuing and back best use of the limited on site capacity.
Councillor Will Rowlands, Executive Councillor for Environment said, “I am pleased we have been able to take this first step to expand disposal options for residents at the weekend period, with bookings now being accepted to dispose of furniture and electrical items. We are also opening our garden waste drop facility in nearby Norman Park as we will not be able to accept garden waste at Baths Road and I encourage residents to check that we’re able to accept the item they are looking to dispose of before booking an appointment.”
At the Baths Road weekend reuse and recycling site, residents will be able to dispose of and recycle:
- Mattresses
- Furniture such as tables, chairs, wardrobes and bulky items
- Sofas, armchairs and other upholstered furniture (POPs)
- Metals - including scrap
- Large electrical and electronic items such as fridges and fridge freezers, televisions, stereos, monitors, computers and lap-tops
- Small electrical and electronic items such as toasters, hair dryers, kettles and mobile phones
Other items, including garden waste, other recycling and non-recyclable refuse, will not be able to be accepted given the limited capacity. A full list of what can and cannot be accepted is on the council’s website along with booking instructions.
The garden waste collection point in Norman Park, open on Saturdays from 11am to 4pm, is being opened earlier this year, opening on 31 January, which gives another option for residents seeking to dispose of their garden waste.
