Four years since the invasion of Ukraine and the support outlined in a letter to the Ukrainian embassy on that day by the Leader of the Council, Bromley continues to show support for Ukraine.
The letter to the Ambassador of Ukraine sent at the time expressed “sadness, sympathy and support”, with Bromley residents continuing to show their support four years on.
Councillor Colin Smith, Leader of Bromley Council said, “It is hard to imagine that it was 4 years ago tomorrow I felt the need to write to the Ambassador pledging our support of Ukraine. I would like to thank every business, charity, voluntary group and churches who have helped honour that promise of support and above all, the resident hosts who have shared their homes, including those that continue to do so. Our hope, as ever, remains for peace and hopefully we are now far nearer the end than the beginning of this horrendous war.”
Tomorrow, a commemorative service will take place at Bromley Civic Centre in support and remembrance for Ukraine led by Bromley’s Mayor, Councillor Jonathan Andrews.
To date, over 550 households across the borough have supported the Homes for Ukraine initiative, with Ukrainian guests living within resident’s homes, with around 80 residents continuing to share their homes with guests. This is in addition to Ukrainian families living in the borough who also have opened their homes as well, with practical support also being shown in many ways, including from voluntary groups.
