The vast array of regeneration works being delivered across the borough sees Bromley in the running for two national awards at the prestigious Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards.

Bromley’s Regeneration Team have been shortlisted for Medium Team of the Year at the national LGC Awards, reflecting the wide range of regeneration projects they deliver to improve spaces and buildings that residents rely on. This extensive work includes the delivery of the multi-million-pound transformation of the Walnuts and West Wickham Leisure Centres, and providing new affordable housing at sites across the borough through the Bromley Homes for Bromley People programme.

Eight of the borough’s libraries have also been refurbished over the last few years, which has seen a surge in visitors, showing the impact of the bright new spaces and varied new facilities these regeneration works deliver. For instance, the new café and Makerspaces including a 3D printer are amongst the features of the refurbished West Wickham Library, where visitor numbers have increased by over 280 per cent since reopening.

Bromley has also been nominated in the Place Shaping Category at the LGC Awards for the regeneration plan being delivered in Crystal Palace Park in partnership with Crystal Palace Park Trust, who became custodians of a key part of this plan to secure the park’s future. A major phase of the regeneration plan is currently being implemented, which will see the restoration of much of the park’s iconic heritage, including the Grade I listed dinosaurs and the Italian Terraces, securing the stone structure where the Crystal Palace once stood. The award-winning restoration of the Crystal Palace Subway, was also delivered as part of this plan, which included the recreation of an impressive glass roof over the courtyard.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Bromley’s Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing, said: “We welcome this national recognition for the extensive regeneration works we have been delivering for residents across the borough, to transform our spaces and invest in the next generation. A huge congratulations to our dedicated Regeneration Team, which we have built up with the expertise needed to carefully manage these often-challenging projects on behalf of council taxpayers. We will continue to build on this success with future and ongoing works to further enhance our great borough.”

To support the council’s regeneration works, a range of grant funding opportunities have also been secured to deliver further improvements for residents within the scope of the works. For instance, a new visitor experience is now being delivered as part of the refurbishment of Crofton Roman Villa, with the support of nearly £250,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The extensive Crystal Palace Park regeneration plan is being co-delivered by Bromley Council and Crystal Palace Park Trust, with the support of partners, including a £5m grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The current multi-million-pound phase of works are expected to be complete by Autumn 2026. Stay up to date with the latest updates online.

The winners of the LGC awards will be announced on Wednesday 10 June 2026.
