A click and collect library service and activity programme is available on Mondays at St Mary’s Church in Shortlands, while investigations continue at the library building, which remains closed.

The click and collect service allows local residents to collect reservations and books from St Mary’s Church between 9:30am and 1pm and between 2pm and 5:30pm each Monday. Children’s play activities, coffee morning groups and a language class is also available on this day. Find out the latest details about the temporary library provision.

A council spokesperson said: “We hope this temporary library provision will be of assistance to residents and local library users, while we continue our investigation works at Shortlands Library. We are continuing with the steps needed to identify the cause of the issue, which is needed to determine the remedial options that might be available.”

Shortlands Library was closed in January for safety reasons after the appearance of cracks in a rear wall, which needed investigation. Since the closure, several drainage surveys have been undertaken to investigate the cause of the crack and determine next steps, with this work ongoing.

The closest alternative library provision is available at Bromley Central Library, which is 1.2 miles away, with Beckenham and West Wickham libraries also both within 2 miles of Shortlands Library.
