Councillor Christine Harris is the new Mayor of Bromley, His Majesty the King’s representative for the borough, having been appointed at the council’s AGM last night (18 May 2026).
The new Mayor is the sixtieth Mayor appointed in Bromley’s history, which follows the sixtieth anniversary of the borough celebrated last year. Councillor Harris previously served as Deputy Mayor including during the Platinum Jubilee and King’s Coronation, attending over 200 street parties across the borough during these celebratory weekends.
The Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Christine Harris, said: “It is a huge privilege to serve as your new Mayor, as I know how special the borough is as a place to live, work and raise a family. I have seen countless examples of dedicated volunteers and local groups working hard to make Bromley an even more special place, including from my time as Deputy mayor. I now plan to play my part as your Mayor in supporting and championing these efforts, including from my two mayoral charities that do such important work locally. So please do get in touch if you are holding events as I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible throughout the year.”
Councillor Harris is a councillor in West Wickham Ward, having previously represented Kelsey and Eden Park Ward since 2018. She has lived in the borough for over 30 years and currently runs her own accountancy practice, while having also served as a school governor for 17 years and having been involved with local Friends of Parks groups and Park Langley Residents’ Association.
Two Mayoral charities have been chosen for 2026/27:
- Madlani Cancer Support, who are based in Orpington and provide holistic support, community groups, and complementary therapies to those affected by cancer, including their families and loved ones. gives information to and help for parents, teachers, adults and interested professionals.
- The Dyslexia Association of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Lewisham, who give information and help to parents, teachers and professional relating to dyslexia, including with adult group meetings and a helpline service.
The new Mayor named Councillor Sunil Gupta, ward councillor for Bromley Common and Holwood ward, as her Deputy Mayor. Reverend Amanda Spence, from St Mary’s in Hayes, was named Mayoral Chaplain 2026 to 2027.
Speaking at the AGM, the new Mayor thanked the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Andrews for his dedication to the borough over the past year.
