Young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), parents and carers are invited to help shape support for preparing for adulthood in Bromley.

Bromley Council is inviting young people with SEND, along with their parents and carers, to take part in a borough-wide consultation about preparing for adulthood.

Funded by the Innovation Fund, the council and NHS South East London ICS has commissioned Community Catalysts to deliver ‘The Bromley Big Conversation about SEND Preparing for Adulthood’. The project will gather the views, experiences and ideas of young people aged 16 to 25 with SEND, as well as parents and carers, to help improve support as young people move towards adulthood and adult services.

This stage of life is often known as “Preparing for Adulthood” or “transition”. The consultation aims to better understand what life is like for young people with SEND as they grow up, what is working well, what could be improved, and what support may be needed in the future.

The council is particularly keen to hear directly from young people about what a good life looks like to them, now and in the years ahead.

Residents can take part by completing an online survey or by contacting Community Catalysts to express interest in attending one of the in-person consultation events taking place as part of the project.

Councillor Jonathan Andrews, Executive Councillor for Children, Education and Families said, “Preparing for adulthood is a very important time for young people with SEND and their families, and we want to make sure their voices are at the heart of how support develops in Bromley.

“This Big Conversation is about listening carefully to young people, parents and carers so we can understand what is working well, where the challenges are, and what would make a real difference.

“I would strongly encourage young people with SEND aged 16 and over, and their parents and carers, to complete the survey or contact Community Catalysts to get involved in one of the in-person conversations.”

The Big Conversation will run until September 2026. The online survey will close on Friday 28 August 2026.

All responses will be treated confidentially. Personal details will not be shared, and answers will only be used for this project.
