A Bromley Council member of staff has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours list for their public service.
Charles Obazuaye, Bromley Council’s Director of Human Resources and Customer Services has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) in recognition of his service to local government. Charles has worked for Bromley for 20 years and during this time, both professionally and personally has supported staff and residents, with 40 years experience in total in different public sector roles.
Councillor Colin Smith, Leader of Bromley Council said, “I am delighted that Charles’ work has been recognised in this manner. Recruiting and retaining the right staff is a key part of any organisation and it is no co-incidence that Bromley has a high proportion of permanently employed social workers rather than relying more on expensive agency workers. Not only is this approach more cost effective but this continuity also provides better service and career development outcomes as well.”
Charles has been an incredible force for good across our borough for over two decades now and it is fitting tribute to his career that his years of dedicated service have been marked with such an honour.”
The latest council workforce data shows that just over 90 per cent of Bromley’s qualified social workers and occupational therapists are employed on a permanent basis, supporting continuity of care and helping to minimise reliance on more expensive agency staff.
It has been while Charles has been leading Human Resources, that Bromley opted out of the local government national terms and conditions, with Bromley the only Authority in London to have achieved this and the only borough nationally to have achieved this since 1991.
