The Mayor of London has introduced a charge that will be paid by most new developments granted planning permission from 1 April 2012.
The Community Infrastructure Levy ( CIL ) is a levy that Local Authorities (including the Greater London Authority) can choose to charge on new developments in their area. The money can be used to support development by funding infrastructure that the council, local community and neighbourhoods want - for example new or safer road schemes, park improvements or a new health centre.
The Mayor of London’s levy is intended to raise funds to pay for transport infrastructure.
Planning applicants will be asked to complete a form 'Determining whether a Development may be CIL Liable'. This form and other forms you will need to complete during the CIL payment process can be found on our CIL forms page.

The London Borough of Bromley adopted its own CIL on 15 June 2021. The Bromley Community Infrastructure Levy may be chargeable in addition to the Mayor of London CIL.
