The borough has over 550 miles of road and over 850 miles of pavement, and we follow a detailed schedule of safety inspections. But if you spot a problem or have an accident on the road or pavement as a result of a fault, please report it to us. Road or pavement problems; include, defective road markings, faulty road or street signs and grass verges in need of cutting.

Reporting road and pavement problems

If the problem is on a red route, it should be reported to Transport for London TFL).

If you think that the problem poses an immediate danger to others, please call us straight away.

An emergency can be:

  • large, deep pot hole
  • a missing manhole cover
  • a tree or a large branch across the road or pavement
  • an oil, diesel or chemical spill on the road
  • debris or a large dead animal on the road or pavement
  • flooding
  • barriers or cones down or thrown out of position

Accidents, trips and falls

Road traffic accidents should be reported to the police where appropriate.

If you have had an accident, the cause will be investigated. It may refer you to another organisation, such as a public utility company (Thames Water, British Gas, etc), if they are responsible.
