Young carers information - Information for children and young people
A young carer is a child or teenager who helps someone at home. It could be your mum, dad, brother, sister, or even a friend who needs extra help because they are ill or have a disability.
Things young carers might do:
- Help someone get up, washed, or dressed
- Cook, clean, or do the shopping
- Look after little brothers or sisters
- Collect medicine or help someone take it
- Give hugs and listen when someone feels sad
- Help someone talk or understand things
Caring is kind and important, but it can also be hard sometimes. You might:
- Miss playing with friends
- Find schoolwork tricky
- Feel tired or worried
That's why getting help is super important - so you can still have fun and enjoy being a child!
