Businesses in Orpington town centre voted in favour of establishing a Business Improvement District (BID). As a result in April 2013, the Orpington 1st BID Company was established to take on the day to day management of the town centre for five years. In April 2018 the businesses voted again in favour to continue with the Orpington 1st BID for further five years.

Orpington 1st has the remit to work to bring success to the town centre through promotion and events, improved accessibility, a better environment and shared business services.

The BID will be funded through a levy calculated on the rateable value of all businesses within Orpington Town Centre.
