Local groups are getting together with The Glades, Your Bromley and the Council to revive this Spring festival that once attracted thousands of visitors.
This year Broom Day is to be celebrated on Sunday 10 May 2026.
Visit the exhibition in the Central Atrium of The Glades from 11am to 4pm, telling the story of the broom in Bromley and how the town grew from the Anglo-Saxon village of ‘Broomleag’ meaning ‘a woodland clearing where broom grows’. Yellow floral decorations will be available along with headdresses for children.
The Mayor will lead a parade at 12 noon from the Elmfield Road entrance of The Glades up the High Street and along Church Road to Martins Hill.
There will be a giant green man and a lifesize Broom flower walking with us along with very tall flower girls!
All are welcome to join the parade, wear something green and yellow!
On Martin's Hill, there will be a display, music, entertainment and activities including a ‘Beat the Goalie’ activity with Bromley FC.
There will be information about how best to conserve and protect the broom and an opportunity to volunteer with others to help keep back the brambles, but most all we will be there to admire and celebrate the spectacular flowering of the broom.
Funds will be raised for local charity Bromley Brighter Beginnings.
Event organiser: Bromley Civic Society along with the Friends of Bromley Parks and Gardens.
