A special family-friendly celebration is taking place in Queens Gardens, Bromley, for Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June as Bromley continues to show its support for the armed forces community.

Residents across the borough are warmly invited to come together in the Bromley town centre park between 10am and 3pm in recognition of those who serve, with a range of children’s activities and entertainment on offer, including crafts and play equipment.

Families are encouraged to bring a picnic to enjoy the relaxed event and show appreciation of Bromley’s armed forces community. Various partners, including Bromley Scouts and local cadet groups, will be joining for the occasion to share more about their local activities and give residents the chance to get involved.

The celebration will be attended by the Mayor of Bromley Councillor Christine Harris and is being hosted by Bromley Council as part of the ongoing commitment to support the borough’s armed forces community. Partners including Mytime Active and Bromley FC Community Trust will also be part of the festivities, with Your Bromley BID supporting by providing deck chairs for residents at the event.

Councillor Mike Botting, Bromley’s Armed Forces Champion said: “Armed Forces Day is an important opportunity that we observe each year in Bromley to recognise and thank all those who serve, or have served, in our armed forces. I encourage residents to join us at Queen’s Gardens to come together for an enjoyable family-friendly day, that will proudly show our appreciation for Bromley’s armed forces community.”

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for residents to enjoy a picnic in the park while engaging with our armed forces groups, including our scouts and cadets, who provide valuable opportunities for our young people across the borough. This event demonstrates our support for Bromley’s armed forces community, alongside our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.”

This event follows the Silver award accreditation that the council received for its armed forces support through the Employer Recognition Scheme from the Ministry of Defence, with work well underway towards the gold award.

A national series of events are taking place on Armed Forces Day and the surrounding Armed Forces Week to show appreciation for the nation’s veterans, service personnel, their families and the wider armed forces community.

A special veteran’s breakfast hub will also be held at Bromley FC on Friday 26 June for Armed Forces Week from 11am to 1pm. Veterans and members of the wider armed forces community are encouraged to join as usual to enjoy a free bacon roll and good company.
