Supporting Bromley’s Armed Forces community
Bromley is continuing to develop ways of providing support to veterans and the wider armed forces community in Bromley, following the council's renewed commitment from the signing of the Armed Forces Covenant. The Armed Forces Covenant is a nationwide pledge to treat with fairness and respect, those who serve or have served in the armed forces, along with the wider armed forces community.
Bromley is joined by a number of partners, organisations and businesses in signing the Covenant and supporting the armed forces community, with those who have not yet signed strongly encouraged to join this journey. This page is a growing information hub, outlining support and opportunities that are available across the borough for members of the armed forces community, and their families, bringing together the important work of many charities and community organisations. This also includes advice and support about housing, employment, finance, health and education. Plus details of events for members the armed forces community.
The council’s Armed Forces Champion is Councillor Mike Botting, ward councillor for Chelsfield and Chairman of the Council’s Health and Wellbeing Board.
Nationally recognised Armed Forces commitment
Bromley has now achieved the Gold Award from the Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, awarded in recognition of the council's commitment to Bromley's armed forces community. Bromley was one of the first three London authorities to achieve this accreditation.
This award follows the Silver Award accreditation received in 2024, which built on Bromley’s re-signing of the Armed Forces Covenant in 2023 to reaffirm our commitment to supporting the armed forces veterans and community across the borough.
Bromley’s military footprint
Bromley has a large veteran population, with 43 married quarters both within the borough and just across the border, with a high number of service children in local schools. The 106 Yeomanry Regiment Royal Artillery is Bromley’s local unit.
There are multiple reserve units nearby leading to local recruiting from Bromley and adding to the Armed Forces footprint.
