A consultation has been launched on proposals for a much-needed affordable housing development in Beckenham, as the council works to deliver more Bromley homes for Bromley people.

Interested residents are invited to Beckenham library on Saturday 24 February, Tuesday 27 February and Wednesday 28 February between 9:30am and 12:30pm, where members of the project team will be available to answer questions and take feedback. Views can also be submitted online, with the consultation formally closing on 4 March 2024.

The proposed housing site is located on the land to the west of The Spa Leisure Centre and between the railway tracks, the former location of Lewis House which is now vacant. The proposed new development would provide 35 new homes securing a sustainable, long-term future for the land subject to the successful outcome of a planning application.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said: “This new development in Beckenham will help bring forwards much-needed additional affordable housing as we continue to progress with our commitment to provide more Bromley homes for Bromley people. It is important that residents’ views are considered so that we can ensure proposals meet local priorities, and I encourage any interested residents to attend these engagement events and discuss the plans ahead of a full planning application being submitted.”

Designed by architects Rivington Street Studio, the proposal consists of a mixture of one, two and three bedroom homes in addition to accessible homes, all of which would be affordable at a social rent level. The plans also contain proposals for affordable workspace provision and new landscaping around the building.

Details about the proposals, which are subject to the outcome of an envisaged planning application are also available by visiting the Rivington Street Studio website.

The services formerly delivered from Lewis House have been relocated within the borough and the council continues to offer an occupational therapy service. A comprehensive list of local community services, activities and support and where these can now be accessed can be found at www.bromley.simplyconnect.uk, with Experts by Experience who had previously located at Lewis House are now based nearby in Bromley town centre.
