The new Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Jonathan Andrews, has been appointed at the Council’s AGM this evening (14 May 2025), becoming the youngest Mayor in Bromley’s history.

The new Mayor is the 59th Mayor appointed in Bromley’s history, the first appointed at Bromley’s new Civic Centre and only the fifth to become Mayor after immediately having served as Deputy Mayor. Cllr Andrews is a solicitor and has served as a trustee of several charities, having first been elected to the Council in 2022. He represents Darwin ward, Bromley’s most rural ward named after its former resident Charles Darwin, and is Darwin’s first ward councillor to serve as Mayor.

Councillor Jonathan Andrews, the Mayor of Bromley, said, “Having been born, raised and educated in the borough, and having lived in the borough all my life, it is an immense honour to now serve residents as Mayor. And having already met a great many local volunteers, community groups and charities during my time as Deputy Mayor, I look forward to continuing to support their incredible work across every corner of the borough during my Mayoral year."

The Mayor continued, “I also look forward to supporting causes close to my heart during the year - including championing disability inclusion across the borough, such as through my chosen charities. And with the upcoming 80th anniversary of VJ Day and 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, I am keen to honour the sacrifices of those who fought, and in a great many cases died, for us all.

“This is set to be an exciting year, so please do get in touch if you have upcoming events, as would love to get involved whenever and wherever we can.”

The Mayor’s chosen charities are CASPA and The Maypole Project. CASPA provides support for autistic individuals and their families across Bromley, including by running important social clubs and services. The Maypole Project provides local support to young people with complex medical needs and their families, from diagnosis onwards.

The new Mayor named Councillor Gemma Turrell, ward councillor for Shortlands and Park Langley ward, as his Deputy Mayor. Reverend Susan Atkinson-Jones, Rector of the Benefice of Chelsfield with Green Street Green and Pratts Bottom, was named Mayoral Chaplain 2025-26.

Speaking at the AGM, the new Mayor thanked the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Jefferys for his dedication to the borough over the past year.
