Over 45 miles of full fibre infrastructure has been installed across the borough to connect over 20 council sites and enable businesses across Bromley to access high speed connections in the future.

Libraries, recycling depots, CCTV sites, and adult education centres are amongst the sites benefiting from the new high-speed connections, ensuing services have the network capacity to use future technology as it becomes available to help improve services for residents. These connections provided by partner contractors Boldyn Networks and ITS will help support Bromley libraries in expanding their digital offering for residents, so further IT sessions on topics like coding and digital design can be introduced in the future.

The new full-fibre broadband network infrastructure will also allow businesses across the borough to begin to access these 10Gbps-capable full fibre connections through local Internet Service Providers (ISPs), who can now use the installed network to provide enhanced connectivity for businesses. More than 4,000 businesses and 350 public sector buildings, including schools and sports centres, will have the potential to access the enhanced network connectivity following this fibre installation project.

The improved network capability helps businesses to better prepare for the digital switchover that is being completed by 2027, which includes the required national change of all analogue landlines to digital technology.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said: “This forward-looking work ensures we have the high-speed network connectivity needed across our sites to efficiently deliver services for residents over the long term, while also supporting Bromley’s economy by enabling businesses to access faster and more reliable networks connections. This project supports our wider approach of providing the long-term infrastructure and resources that our ambitious businesses need, ensuring the borough remains a competitive and strategic hub for businesses to thrive.”

Bromley is delivering this full-fibre installation project in partnership with ITS, who are now working with local Internet Service Providers in the borough so that businesses can have greater choice and benefit from the lower connection costs to begin to access the enhanced network connections available. Interested businesses should contact their Internet Service Provider (ISP) or check online for more information.

ITS, in partnership with Boldyn, will also be delivering digital skills training in Bromley, which will be arranged in Bromley’s libraries, with further details announced in due course.
