Residents are invited to find out about emerging plans to deliver 44 affordable homes on Poverest Road at upcoming engagement sessions as part of the ‘Bromley Homes for Bromley People’ programme.
These much-needed homes form part of the council’s ongoing programme to deliver affordable housing on manageable sites across the borough for Bromley residents. This proposed development is set to be delivered from the site of the Poverest Adult Education Centre once the service moves to a new delivery model from summer 2027. This new model means the adult education courses will be offered at alternative locations across the borough, including the dedicated Kentwood Adult Education Centre and using wider council sites such as libraries.
The housing proposal includes a mix of two- to four-bed homes, all of which will be affordable and includes accessible homes. The wider plans also feature a range of public realm improvements, including enhancements to green spaces such as Tillingbourne Green Playground and Poverest Park playground. The landscape-led design approach will see the retention of trees on site. Vehicular and pedestrian access to Poverest Primary School is set to be improved.
Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said: “We are continuing to bring forward plans such as these for high quality, affordable homes for our residents and I encourage those interested to come find out more and share any feedback. These proposals come on the back of a number of developments we are delivering or have delivered at manageable sites across the borough, which collectively mean more Bromley homes for Bromley people, while also reducing our housing costs to the benefit of council taxpayers.”
Residents can find out more about the proposal and share their views at the following engagement sessions at Poverest Primary School:
- Monday 27 October: 11am to 4pm
- Wednesday 29 October: 5pm to 7pm
- Saturday 1 November: 9am to 12pm
Residents will be able to view the proposals online during the consultation week and submit their feedback through the online platform.
The proposed housing is 100% affordable and will be used for Bromley residents on the housing register. The properties will be let by the council’s housing service, helping to reduce reliance on more expensive, nightly paid accommodation when housing Bromley residents. Bromley, like all local authorities, is continuing to face significant costs related to its statutory duty to house homeless families, driven by the lack of available affordable housing, particularly in London.
Progress is continuing to be made on the council’s wider ‘Bromley homes for Bromley people’ programme, with the most recent development completed in West Wickham, with ongoing developments in Orpington, Bromley and Beckenham.
