Orpington now has 35 new affordable homes from the fifth development in the council’s ‘Bromley homes for Bromley people’ programme, providing housing for residents on Bromley’s housing register.

This latest development is at Platinum Jubilee Close off of York Rise in Orpington and comprises terraced maisonettes and modern apartments, with each new home having a balcony, terrace or garden. A new children’s play area has also been provided as part of the development.

The completion of the new affordable housing was commemorated with a ribbon cutting by the Mayor of Bromley. The Leader of the Council, Councillor Colin Smith, councillors and representatives from partner contractors Etec Contract Services, who completed the delivery of the scheme, were also in attendance.

The Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Jonathan Andrews said: “It was a pleasure to mark the completion of this lovely new housing, which will soon see Bromley residents move in and start to make this development their home. My congratulations to all involved.”

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing who was also in attendance, said: “This is another tick in our growing list of affordable housing developments, providing 35 new homes for Orpington on a difficult site to further help residents on the borough’s housing register. We are progressing schemes like this on brownfield sites across the borough, providing local housing while also reducing council costs for expensive nightly paid accommodation.”

This development follows the completion of earlier ‘Bromley homes for Bromley people’ developments, with works also underway on 75 new affordable homes at Bromley North and Planning approval granted for developments in Beckenham and St Paul’s Cray.
