A new matchday campaign at Bromley FC is encouraging supporters aged 40 to 74 to take up an NHS Health Check, a national programme designed to assess heart health and help prevent serious conditions.
Bromley Council and Bromley FC are teaming up to help fans stay match‑fit, urging eligible supporters to book an NHS Health Check and explore local stop smoking and alcohol support.
Dr Nada Lemic, Director of Public Health at Bromley Council said, “Football is part of everyday life for many people in Bromley, which makes it a brilliant way to share positive health messages. Just like a pre-season fitness test, an NHS Health Check gives you a clearer picture of your health and helps you act early - even if you feel fine, because many risks don’t come with warning signs. We’re encouraging eligible residents to take up their check and access support to cut down drinking or quit smoking.”
Mick Livesey, Chief Revenue Officer at Bromley FC said, “Our supporters are the heartbeat of this club. We’re proud to team up with Bromley Council to share messages that can help fans and the local community stay well. Whether it’s booking an NHS Health Check, getting help to quit smoking, or using tools to cut down on drinking alcohol, we want people to feel supported and to keep enjoying football for years to come.”
The joint campaign will feature health messaging across the club’s channels and at the ground, to encourage supporters to take simple steps that can make a big difference - starting with the NHS Health Check offer.
An NHS Health Check is designed to spot early signs of serious but often preventable conditions, including heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, type 2 diabetes, and dementia.
In Bromley, NHS Health Checks are provided by GP surgeries. If you’re eligible, you’ll receive an invitation for a check every five years. If you think you are eligible and haven’t been invited, you can contact your GP practice and ask about arranging a check.
If you are aged 40 to 74 and have not already been diagnosed with certain long‑term conditions, you may be eligible for an NHS Health Check.
Alongside NHS Health Checks, the campaign will also highlight support available to Bromley residents who want to feel more in control of their alcohol use.
Lower My Drinking offers an anonymised quiz for Bromley residents aged 18 and above. Based on your results, it provides tailored information, tips on cutting down, and signposting to useful support in the borough. Residents can also try the Lower My Drinking app, which can help you track drinking, set goals, use motivational reminders, and monitor progress.
The partnership will also signpost fans to SmokeFree Bromley, delivered by Change Grow Live (CGL), which provides stop smoking support for Bromley residents.
The service includes:
- One‑to‑one support for up to 12 weeks with a trained advisor
- Access to stop smoking aids
- Support by phone, in person, or online video, plus local drop‑in clinics
You are three times more likely to quit with support so finding the right support that suits you can help you to stay smokefree for good, and residents can contact SmokeFree Bromley directly by phone or email.
