Recycling for flats

Most residents in flats are provided with a borough-wide waste collection service which enables them to recycle.

Food waste recycling collection

Most flats are able to recycle their food waste. Every week we will collect your food waste which could include:

  • Fruit, vegetables and peelings
  • Meat, fish and bones
  • Cooked and uncooked food
  • Plate scrapings
  • Leftover food
  • Bread, pasta, cereal and rice
  • Tea bags and coffee grounds
  • Dairy products and eggshells
  • Cut flowers (placed in a compostable bag or newspaper)

Please don't put these in the food waste wheelie bin:

  • Plastic-film and food wrappings (including plastic or biodegradable bags)
  • Disposable nappies and incontinence pads (please double-bag and place in refuse)
  • Pet waste (please double-bag and place in refuse)
  • Any other household waste

Plastics, cans and glass collection

We will collect your plastics, cans and glass every other week.

All plastic containers can be placed into the green lid wheelie bin as well as plastic bottles. You can recycle:

  • Drink cans
  • Aerosol cans
  • Food tins and foil
  • Glass bottles and jars - all colours
  • Milk and drinks bottles
  • Detergent bottles
  • Plastic dishes and trays
  • Yoghurt pots
  • Ice-cream containers
  • Margarine containers
  • Tetra Paks (e.g. juice cartons) 

Please don't put these in your green lid wheelie bin:

  • Plastic bags
  • Plastic-film
  • Plastic toys
  • Plastic plant pots
  • Other metal
  • Pyrex
  • Drinking glasses
  • Crockery
  • Broken glass
  • Window glass  

Paper and card collection

We will collect your paper and card every other week. You can recycle:

  • Newspapers and magazines
  • Catalogues and phone books
  • Cardboard (flattened)
  • Pizza boxes
  • Cardboard tubes (e.g. toilet rolls)
  • Cards (e.g birthday, Christmas)

Please don't put these in your blue lid wheelie bin:

  • Hardback books (we cannot recycle the cover - why not give them to charity?)
  • Drink and milk cartons
  • Tetra Paks (e.g. juice cartons)
