Batteries, vapes and small electrical items

Batteries, vapes and electrical items should never be placed in your rubbish bin or in your green and black recycling containers.

They contain precious metals, can easily be recycled and cause harm to the local environment if not treated and disposed of properly. Batteries and hidden batteries within electricals can start fires when crushed or damaged inside waste collection vehicles.

How to recycle

Everything with a plug, battery or cable can be recycled.

Remove batteries from vapes and electricals before recycling. If you’re unable to remove the battery, recycle it together with your old electricals.

Many stores have donation or recycling points. To find your nearest point and for more information about e-waste and electrical recycling.

Most supermarkets, DIY and homeware stores have battery recycling collection facilities in-store, check your local shop for details.

Some vape retailers now offer a return scheme and recycle the old vapes responsibly. Please check with the retailer. If this service is not provided, please use the electrical and battery recycling points or collection services as described on this page.

If you live in a kerbside property, we will collect your separately bagged and loosely tied batteries and small electrical items, including vapes- please see below for further details.

Larger electrical items can be taken to one of our reuse and recycling sites or collection for a charge via our bulky waste collection service.

Bags

Leave the bags by your green or black box. Please don't use black bags as we might mistake your recycling for rubbish. Vehicle space is limited, so if we don’t collect these items one week, bring them in and put out for collection the following week.
