Recycling and waste collections
Presenting your recycling and waste for collection
Your recycling and waste needs to be placed in the correct containers, securely contained and placed at the edge of your property within arms reach of the pavement (edge of curtilage) by 7am on your scheduled collection days. Please do not place containers directly on the pavement.
Please ensure your containers and waste are easily accessible. We may be unable to collect them if they are incorrectly presented or blocked by a locked gate or parked car. In these cases, you cannot report a missed collection and must wait until your next scheduled collection day.
Unexpected events, such as poor weather, vehicle breakdowns, roadworks or a police incident, may prevent collections. If this happens, we’ll do our best to catch up as soon as possible.
We will collect non-recyclable refuse in black sacks, or equivalent bags, that fit easily into a standard-sized dustbin. If you use your own wheelie bin or similar container, please put your non-recyclable refuse in standard-sized refuse sacks to allow safe collection.
Wheelie bins are designed to be tipped into the back of a collection vehicle for safe emptying. If you use one to store non-recyclable refuse, our crews may need to empty it this way. Your bin must meet the EN840 safety requirements, so please check with the manufacturer or retailer before buying.
We provide containers for all recycling collections. Residents must supply their own containers for non-recyclable refuse.
Should you be unable to place your recycling and waste at the edge of your property for collection or require assistance with collections, please contact us on 0300 303 8658.

- Garden waste
- Construction or demolition waste - find out more about householders duty of care
- Hazardous waste (e.g. oil, asbestos or paint, etc)
- Dead pets - contact your vet for advice
- Commercial waste (e.g. produced by a shop, office or home business)
- Clinical waste
My collection has been missed - what should I do?
Your recycling and waste are collected on the same day, but collection times may vary. Leave everything out until the end of the day before reporting a missed collection. Report any missed collection within two working days of your scheduled collection. If your container was not at the edge of your property by 7am, you will need to wait until your next collection day.
Incidents can sometimes delay collections. If your recycling or waste has not been collected, check your address for delays. If no delay is indicated, we may have missed your collection, and a missed collection can be reported.
