Ageing well in Bromley
Published Wednesday, 19 December 2018
Bromley Council and NHS Bromley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are working together to consider how the borough can better support local residents to live well in their later years
To help us do this we are working together with local residents, professionals and partners to develop a new joint Strategy for Ageing Well in Bromley. The strategy will look at current and future population trends and needs across the borough and consider how best to support people to live happily, healthily and independently
We know that the numbers of Bromley residents who are 65 and over are increasing and that people are living longer. However, where you live can have a significant impact on your life expectancy and there is an increase in the number of people living with long term conditions.
Strategy development update
The findings and outcomes from the engagement over the summer have been analysed and considered not only by the team at the council and Bromley CCG, but have also been used as part of two co-design workshops. These workshops, that took place at the Civic Centre in early November, were made up of members of the public who had expressed an interest in getting involved in the development of the strategy. We also spoke to GPs about the strategy at their November cluster meetings. These workshops have helped us to turn some of the consultation findings into practical ideas and prospective projects.
As a result we now have a portfolio of projects co-designed with our communities, providers and voluntary sector partners that will form the basis of the strategy’s delivery plan over the next 5 years.
In early December 2018 we sent a draft copy of the strategy to people and organisations who had been involved in its development and who had requested the opportunity to comment. This included over 150 members of the public. Their feedback has been incorporated into the final strategy. The council and CCG are extremely grateful for the time and effort that everyone has given to co-design a strategy that incorporates so many ideas from local people.
The final strategy document and work plans will be launched in spring 2019. The full engagement report will be available online in January. Hard copies are also available on request.
